Cookie policy

Cookies are small files a website can ask your browser to store, so that the site recognises the browser on a later page or a later visit. They hold preferences and identifiers; they cannot read files on your device or read cookies set by other sites. Related technologies — local storage, for one — do a similar job in a different place, and this notice treats them the same way.

A cookie set by the site you are visiting is a first-party cookie. One set by another company whose content is loaded inside that page is a third-party cookie. The distinction matters here, because the only cookies this site is involved with are the second kind.

Four things, and this is the whole list:

• Your answer to the cookie notice. When you accept or decline, the answer is saved in your browser's local storage under the name olvera-law-cookie-consent. It is not a cookie, it is never sent to a server, and nothing but this site's own script reads it. It exists so the notice does not ask you the same question on every page.
• Measurement, and only if you accept. Accepting loads Google Tag Manager, which is how the firm counts visits and sees which pages are read. It sets Google's own cookies. Declining, or ignoring the notice, loads nothing: the script is not on the page at all until an answer of “accept” is stored.
• The appointment scheduler. The Book a Consultation page embeds Google's own booking page in a frame. That frame is Google's document, and Google sets its own cookies inside it when it loads — the firm cannot switch them off from here. It is loaded on that one page and nowhere else.
• Typefaces. The site's fonts are requested from Google's font service on every page. That request sets no cookie, but it does disclose your IP address to Google, which is why it is listed here rather than left out for want of a cookie.

What the firm sees from any of this is aggregate: how many people read a page, not who they are. Nothing on this site relates that measurement to a name, and nothing on it identifies you personally from a visit alone.

This website runs no advertising cookies and no ad-targeting or retargeting technology of any kind. There is no advertising network on it, and nothing on it follows you to another site.

You have three ways to control it, and they work at different levels:

• The notice on this site. Accept or decline, and the answer is remembered. You can change it below at any time, which is what withdrawing consent means in practice.
• Clearing this site's data. Removing this site's stored data in your browser forgets your answer, and the notice asks again on your next visit.
• Your browser's own settings. Every current browser can refuse some or all cookies. Be aware of the trade-off: blocking third-party cookies or frames outright may stop the embedded booking calendar from working, in which case use the link under it to open the scheduler directly, or simply call the office.

Declining costs you nothing on this site. The pages, the practice-area content and the booking page all work exactly the same either way.

This forgets the answer stored in this browser and brings the notice back, so you can answer again. If you had accepted, measurement stops loading from your next page onwards.
